How to Spot a Fake Shure Microphone

By , About.com Guide   September 15, 2008

Follow me on:

Shure Microphones -- especially the SM57 and SM58 -- are legendary for both stage and studio use. Every studio and music venue has at least one Shure microphone, and their value, reliability, and sound quality has made them the first choice for many top artists. However, with their popularity, counterfeit Shure mics have become a real problem.

Be careful when buying from anyone other than an authorized Shure vendor, and follow these simple steps to make sure your mic is genuine. Remember, if the deal's too good to be true, it most likely is!

SM57s are great instrument mics. I’ve had a tough time getting a good sound with vocals without extensive EQ.

I give up trying to buy these on Ebay as most seem to be clones!
