Question: All About Pro Tools MP 9
At Musikmesse Frankfurt 2011, Avid introduced the Pro Tools MP 9 product -- the latest step in the evolution of the popular, industry-standard recording and mixing software. Pro Tools has become the gold standard for studios of all sizes -- and from the introduction of Pro Tools Free to Pro Tools LE, home studios of every budget have been able to make the leap to Pro Tools.

So, what's different about Pro Tools MP 9, and how is it useful for home studios -- and how's it different than Pro Tools M-Powered?
Answer: Pro Tools MP 9 is the latest incarnation of Pro Tools M-Powered. Pro Tools MP 9 is intended for use with M-Audio's interface products, including their most recently offerings -- MobilePre, Fast Track Pro, and Fast Track Ultra. Pro Tools MP 9 may be value-priced, but it still packs a gigantic punch.

Pro Tools MP 9 supports up to 48 tracks simultaneously, which is a lot -- especially considering that they're able to be 24-bit, 96-kHz. Taking a cue from Logic and GarageBand, Pro Tools MP 9 offers 70 virtual instrument patches as well as several bundled effects plug-ins. This makes professional-quality mixes easy to construct.

There's some other very surprising features, too -- automatic delay compensation, a key feature to obtaining clearer and more cohesive mixes, has been added, as has automatic MP3 bouncing support -- something that previously took a $20 investment.

Pro Tools MP 9 will be priced for both software-only and hardware bundles, and if you're already an M-Powered user, you'll be able to get an upgrade for a discount. For software alone, the full version will run you $299.95, with a $100 discount if you're upgrading. If you're looking to add an M-Audio interface, there's options for that, as well: Pro Tools MP 9 bundled with MobilePre is priced at $329.95, with additional options including the Fast Track Pro for $399.95 and Fast Track Ultra for $549.95.

Pro Tools MP 9 is available for worldwide purchase as of May 16, 2011.
