The New Shure Sound Isolating Earphones

Introducing: SE210, SE310, SE420, and SE530.

By , About.com Guide

At CES 2007 in Las Vegas, NV, one of the most exciting announcements for the music-making and music-loving set was Shure's new, revamped line of Sound Isolating Earphones. Riding on the heels of their wildly successful E-series, the new sound isolating earphones offer remarkable comfort and, most importantly, sound quality. While the new SE series use the same technology as the E series, it won't be replacing it; the E series will continue to be offered through both professional and consumer channels, while the SE series will focus on the consumer market.

Meet The Team

The lowest priced entry is the SE210, priced at $149.99, a single-driver earphone similar to Shure's previous lower-end offering, the E3. A step up from there is the SE310 priced at $249.99, a single-driver earphone with tuned-port technology, allowing for a better bass response and better cohesiveness across the spectrum. This model uses the components of the Shure E4.

Two high-end offerings round out Shure's new lineup. The Shure E5 has been replicated in the SE420 priced at $349.99, a sleeker, more comfortable design based on the same dual-driver technology that made the E5 famous. You'll find the SE420 to have expanded frequency range and dynamic quality over the previous two offerings.

Finally, Shure's E500 joins the line by way of the elegant SE530, priced at $449.99, a triple-driver (dual woofer, single tweeter) design that looks and sounds great.

New Features

While the new SE series is based on the same technology of the E series, they're tuned specifically for personal listening, compared to stage performance like other models. This interest in the personal listening market shows through in the new modular design; the cables terminate in a short 1/8" cable, where any number of accessories, from Shure's Push-To-Hear module, to various adapters and cable extensions.

Included with the lower-end models is the Deluxe Fit Kit, which includes foam, flex, and triple-flange sleeves, an extension cable, along with a carrying case and wax cleaner. The higher-end offerings contain the Premium Fit Kit, including all of the above along with an airline adapter and a volume control adapter.

The new earphones will be available soon from both Shure.com, and select retailers around the world.
