Multitrack

By , About.com Guide

Definition: Multitrack recording is, simply, recording with more than two recording tracks simultaneously. Typically, multitrack recording allows each individual instrument to have it's own track; in the early days of multitracking, various elements were unable to have their own individual tracks and thus had to be combined to one of 4 or 8 available tracks. Today, many digital multitracking methods offer as many as 192 tracks.
